Producing Solution 

Fill a drinking glass or glass bottle with 8 oz. or more with pure, distilled water.   “Spring water”, mineral water, or “purified” water is not acceptable!

Plug in the silver electrodes so that they are connected to the solar electric panel. To disconnect, press the release tab on the connector to separate the connectors.  Never pull the cables apart by pulling on the cable, always pull while firmly gripping the connectors.  Pulling on the cables will cause damage to the unit and void the warranty.

Place the solar panel in direct sunlight.  Secure it with a clamp or other method to hold it in place in windy conditions. Avoid shading of the panel.

Extend the connecting cable so that it does not cast a shadow or cross over the front of the solar panel.

Separate the silver electrodes so that they are approximately 1/2 inch apart the full length and making sure they are straight, not curved, kinked or touching each other.

Place the electrodes into the distilled water so that the electrodes are a minimum ¼ inch beyond the surface of the water and are not totally submerged.  Set the electrodes so that the longer one touches the bottom of the container; do not allow both electrodes to contact the bottom at the same time.

Place the water container with electrodes in a shaded location, out of direct sunlight.

Depending upon atmospheric conditions, you will soon begin to see bubbles forming and a white haze appearing between the two electrodes.  This is the colloidal silver being made.  If you have a laser pointer or strong LED flashlight, shine it into the liquid and see how the beam lights up.  This is the Brownian effect taking place and is your guarantee that the solution (colloid) is being created before your eyes. It is highly recommended that you obtain/purchase a TDS meter (total dissolved solids) that reads from 0 to 50 parts per million.  5% TDS colloidal silver is effective.  Test the solution to determine the concentration. If the solution remains in the sun too long, it will need to be passed through three layers of coffee filters to remove any sediment that may have formed. If in doubt discard by watering a plant, it will love it or save it for soaking (feet/hands) or use for cleaning/disinfecting.

Immediately after use, wipe the electrodes clean with a paper towel; do not allow drying without wiping them clean.  If they do dry out without cleaning, lightly rub with a scrubbie.  Take care not to rub too hard, as the silver is soft and you could shorten the life of the electrodes by removing more than necessary,.

Store the solution in a dark colored glass or ceramic (no metal or plastic) container out of light. Exposure to light will cause it to turn purple. You may notice on occasion that the solution has turned golden colored.  It is not likely that this will occur every time, but could occur often.  It takes several days while in storage for this effect to be observed.  Golden colloidal silver is considered to be of higher quality/value.

Care and Suggestions

Treat this valuable asset with care and respect.  Do not fold, roll or bend the solar panel.  It is water proof and no harm will occur if left outside in wet weather.  Store flat and dry when not in use.

The most delicate part of the unit is the cable where it attaches to the silver electrodes.  Be careful to not over flex, bend, pull or submerge this part of the cable.

Avoid folding or bending the electrodes, keep them straight.

Once a solution is finished, using a portion of it (a teaspoonful) to start the next batch (8 oz.) will help start the process more rapidly.

It is helpful to use a small plastic clamp/clothes pin to hold the top of the electrodes against the top edge of the glass container to keep them in the position you desire (remember… only one electrode touching the bottom).  Make sure the clamp is located on only one of the electrodes, never both.

Due to the variability of available sunlight (passing clouds, haze, shadows, etc.) solution termination time will vary.

One set of electrodes could produce up to 70 gallons of solution.  This will vary depending on care and use.  Cleaning immediately after use and not allowing the process to continue longer than necessary will maximize the electrode life.
